In the fall of 2023, I worked as a reasearch assistant on the Farallon Islands with Point Blue Conservation Science. It was such an incredible experience, and I know that I will be drawing inspiration from it for a long time! This drawing is inspired by a very specific moment:
I was out at sunrise for a shorebird survey, and the lighting was incredible! The island was pink and orange in the golden sunlight, and the shadows were a complex mix of blues and purples. As I was scanning for shorebirds, a Pelagic Cormorant landed on the rocks nearby, water splattering up beneath it from a crashing wave. What a beautiful moment!
